Cynthia Scott is a singer/songwriter who encompasses the swing of jazz, the soul of R & B, and the sacred stirrings of gospel music. She is loved by audiences throughout the world and by musicians from Wynton Marsalis to Ray Charles - who discovered her- and jazz critics like Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune's who called her “a mesmerizing vocalist”.
Cynthia was born in Arkansas and began singing at the age of four. The 10th of 12 children in a musical family, she developed her craft singing gospel music in her father's church. After high school, Cynthia moved to Dallas, Texas and became a 'Raelette' with the Ray Charles Organization, recording and touring with the band. Later she was able to pay tribute to her mentor at the Chicago Jazz Festival and she has written a one-woman show called One Raelette's Journey that is currently in production and speaks of this journey with Brother Ray.
She has also had the opportunity to perform or share the stage with many other Jazz luminaries at countless venues including Wynton Marsalis, Lionel Hampton, Harry Connick, Jr. The Harper Brothers, Joe Williams, Lou Donaldson, Cyrus Chestnut, and many others to numerous to mention. Earning a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music from Manhattan School Of Music, she teaches private lessons and has taught master classes at a number of performing arts schools.
In 2004, Ms. Scott toured France and West Africa as a Jazz Ambassador for the U.S. State Department (in conjunction with the Kennedy Center) "I taught many workshops along with performances," Scott says. "In one workshop of four to ten year olds, I asked them, what is the first instrument ever created? A five year old child name Michael raised his hand and said “the heartbeat". I learned something that day from that child. The heart beats long before the voice or the drum speaks”. In her song “Vision from on High” on her latest CD she sings, “Listen from the heart of a child that can see....” That child’s answer perfectly mirror’s Scott’s passion to use her art to try to make the world a better place. Cynthia’s CD releases include, “I Just Want to Know”, “Boom Boom: Live in Japan with Norman Simmons Trio”, “Al La Carte; Live at Birdland”, “Storytelling: Live at Birdland”, and her latest release, the critically lauded – “Dream for One Bright World”.
