Tom Thorndike began formal classical training on the piano at age 12, and in high school performed in both jazz and rock groups, giving him a musical versatility.  Thorndike attended the University of Connecticut from 1999-2002 where he continued classical, jazz, and composition studies. Thorndike's composition “Groove In Black” as featured on the CD Uconn Jazz, marks his official debut recording as a pianist, composer and arranger. Upon graduating with a B.A. in 2002 Thorndike moved to Boston to attend Berklee on a scholarship. In 2006 he became a student of legendary piano and jazz improvisation teacher Charlie Banacos. In late 2007 Thorndike released his CD Tom Thorndike Trio under his own label. The recording features Boston based bassist John Lockwood and drummer Dave Weigert, and includes original compositions and standard interpretations. His former mentor Earl MacDonald produced the sessions. In 2008 Thorndike moved to New York City where he is active as a performer and composer. Tom is currently a student of classical piano guru Sophia Rosoph.
